Chris Partida at The Tower of London
Chris Partida teaches at a community college just north of Houston, Texas. He holds a Master's degree in English and has taught pre-college level and college-level English classes for over eleven years. For a complete professional vita, click the About Me link above.
Although Chris finds teaching a rewarding career, he is not one to settle for just one major accomplishment. He plans to return to school this year as a part-time student with the hopes of eventually earning a second graduate degree, this time in history.
Most of all, Chris considers himself a writer. He is currently revising the draft of a novel, and his poetry has been published by various literary publications. Click on the My Writing link above for more details.
Yes, I know it seems like everyone has a blog these days. Unlike many writers, however, I do not plan to blog about writing (at least not very often). Instead, my blog will focus on living he life of a "career learner."
After a very difficult spring semester of teaching this year, inspiration hit me: I must go back to school. I love my job, however, and I cannot imagine doing anything else for a living. Explaining the epiphany to my friends and family has not been easy: no, I am not quitting my job; and no, I am not getting another degree to make more money . . . in fact, there will probably be no financial gain whatsoever. I am one of the few people in this world who decide to go back to school simply because I love to learn.
So my blog is going to focus on explaining why I want to keep learning. It is certainly a painful sacrifice of time and energy (after all, my job's duties will not disappear, my writing still needs to get done, etc.). Either I am crazy or there really is something to gain from it all.
